Cuban judokas Charon and Adelannis finish soon at Abu Dhabi World Cup



HAVANA, Cuba, May 20 (ACN) Cuban judo judokas Jonathan Charon and Adelannis Carbonell had a quick finish at the World Championships in Ubu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, losing in the second and first bouts of the preliminaries, respectively.

According to the website of the International Federation www.ijf.org, Charon, in the 60 kilograms (kg), defeated by Ippon in the debut to the Mongolian Tsogt-Ochir Byambajav, but in the second fight he lost by the same way to the Israeli Ariel Shulmao, who won in Kansetsu-waza with Juji-Gatame technique.

Adelannis (52 kg), who was also defeated by Ippon in the first match against Japan's Hibiki Shiraishi, had less performance.

Monday, Orlando Polanco (66 kg) will make his debut for Cuba, and his first opponent will be Japan's Takeshi Takeoka.

Julio Alderete and Yordanis Arencibia, head coaches of the men's and women's national teams, in that order, also include their main cards for victory, Ivan Silva (90 kg), Andy Granda (+100 kg), Maylin del Toro (63 kg) and Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg).

The organizers inform that 658 judokas -349 men and 309 women- from 107 countries are registered in Abu Dhabi.

The mixed team tournament is scheduled for Friday, with action in the 73, 90 and over 90 kg for men and 57, 70 and over 70 kg for women.
