Cuban beach volleyball duo Diaz-Alayo today in semifinals in Dominican Republic

HAVANA, Cuba, May 10 (ACN) Cuban duo Noslen Diaz and Jorge Luis Alayo will face today the host Dominican Republic De Jesus-Martinez, in one of the semifinal matches of the Juan Dolio phase of the North, Central America and Caribbean Circuit (Norceca) of Beach Volleyball.

Cubans advanced on Thursday to the semifinal by defeating 2-0 duos from Cayman Islands, Saint Kit and Nevis, Virgin Islands and Mexico.

Diaz and Alayo defeated in group C of the preliminaries the Caymanian duo Van Dam-Watson with partials of 21-18 and 21-18, the Saint Kitts and Nevis Clerique-Nage (21-8 and 21-13) and the Virgin Islands Ratter-Lomeli (21-19 and 21-13), in that order, and the Mexican Sarabia-Cruz (21-16 and 21-17), in the quarterfinals.
The women's duo of Maikelin Drik and Amanda Armenteros also competed for Cuba on Thursday, but they failed to qualify for the B section.

In the world circuit, the main Cuban duo previously won two silver medals and a fourth place in the World Pro Tour Challenger in Recife and Saquarema, both in Brazil, and in Guadalajara, Mexico, respectively, results to which they added the historic bronze medal obtained in the Elite 16 of the World Pro Tour in Tepic, Mexico.
They then reached the round of 16 in the World Pro Tour Beach Volleyball Challenger tournament in Xiamen, China.

With those, Diaz and Alayo are doing well in their aspirations to be among the pairs that will be in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Cubans also have the option of getting the ticket for the Parisian appointment in the North, Central America and Caribbean (Norceca) pre-Olympic, an event to be held from June 19 to 24 in the Mexican city of Tlaxcala, where to achieve it they would have to climb to the top of the podium.
