Cuban divers Anisley and Prisis underperform in Olympic trials

HAVANA, Cuba, May 10 (ACN) Cubans Anisley Garcia and Prisis Leydis Ruiz were below expectations in the three-meter springboard in the international tournament, a trial for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, to be held in the same facility that will host the diving of the Olympic Games.

Hugo Perez de Corcho, head coach of the national team, informed the Cuban News Agency that things did not go as expected, the quality of the rivals is high, remember that they were invited, and many are, those qualified for Paris and those who have chances of getting tickets, he said.

The truth is that Anisley was in 13th place and Prisis in 14th, with 217.50 and 208 points, respectively, while the podium was occupied by the Australian Maddison Keeney (337.35), the Chinese Yani Chan (320.40) and the Japanese Mikami Sayaka (302.85), in that order.

More details were offered by Milagros Gonzalez, national commissioner, who explained to the digital edition of the sports publication JIT, "They really weren't well at all. We will talk to them later to have more certainty about what could have happened. They had too many faults, especially in the third jump of each program".

Today, Anisley Garcia will compete in the 10-meter platform and will be looking to improve against top-level rivals.

Anisley and Prisis, as well as other divers, are waiting for the official announcement, from June 9 to 21, of the final list of World Athletics qualifiers.
