Cuban Elier Miranda is crowned at Veracruz chess tournament



HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 29 (ACN) A victorious farewell led Cuban Elier Miranda to the title as owner of five points in the Mi Veracruz National Chess Championship, which for six rounds attracted the attention from that Mexican locality.

Miranda, Cuban monarch in 2023, completed four wins and a couple of draws as part of a performance valued at 2,581 Elo units and in the next update of the ranking he will add 10 points.

The final victory was achieved against his compatriot Diasmany Otero and served him to occupy the top position alone, as the Cuban Omar Almeida and the host Gilberto Hernandez were with 4.5 scores and shared the second and third positions, in that order.

Almeida and Hernandez agreed to a tie in the game they played on Sunday and both also celebrated with victories in their accumulated for the universal ranking.

Of the rest of the Cuban participants, Ricardo Reyson Rodriguez stood out, ranked 11th with four units. With only 3.5 points, Otero was in 16th place, while Yusuan Gutierrez was two behind, with the same total.

Miranda and Almeida will be among the main players of the open group in the 57th International Chess Tournament Capablanca in Memoriam 2024, which opens on May 2 in Havana and are members of the national pre-selection and aspire to be included in the formation that will represent Cuba at the World Olympiad in Budapest, next September.
