HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 20 (ACN) Cuban U15 baseball team lost today 11-1 to Nicaragua at the Pan American Championship being held in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, and could not reach one of the five places offered by the tournament to the World Championship.
It was the third defeat for the boys coached by Alexander Urquiola, after the losses in close matches against Venezuela and Puerto Rico, both in extra innings.
With this result, they are placed fourth in their group B, only ahead of Peru and Guatemala, the only teams that Cuba managed to beat.According to the competition system implemented by the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC), the top two in each section are assured their stay in the world championship and the third places will seek their ticket in a sudden death game.
Cuba's performance is surprising, after having reached the second place in the last edition of the World Championship of the category in 2022.
