Cuban President: We must Defend Sports in all Scenarios

Havana, March 13 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel called for the defense of sports in all scenarios, including social media, during the annual report meeting of the Cuban Sports, Physical Education and Recreation Institute (INDER).

The meeting reviewed the performance of the institute in 2023, a period of time marked by many challenges although local athletes made their best in every competition.

INDER president Osvaldo Vento read the annual report which included the institution’s work in the are of high sports performance and in the training of young talents.

Vento referred to the repair of sports facilities, the attention to athletes and the use of science to achieve better results.

Diaz-Canel insisted in the need to strengthen unity and political-ideological work, and give a voice to trainers and athletes in debates and exchanges to find solution to pending problems.

The head of state also called to encourage the people, particularly children and youths to participate in physical culture as a way achieve a healthy body and mind.

He also referred to the need to build more bio-healthy gyms and recover the results Cuban sports achieved years ago, in modalities like baseball, basketball, volleyball and handball.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manuel Marreo stressed the importance to strengthen sports practice in neighborhoods and communities to the benefit of the people.
