Cuban Alejandro Claro today at pre-olympic boxing event in Busto Arzizio

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 11 (ACN) Cuban boxer Alejandro Claro, 51 kilograms (kg) will be in action today at the Pre-Olympic Tournament in the Italian city of Busto Arzizio, in search of the triumph that will guarantee him the ticket to the Paris 2024 Games.

Claro, world bronze medalist in Tashkent 2023, will have a difficult opponent in the Colombian Yuberjen Martinez, Olympic runner-up in Rio de Janeiro 2016.

On Sunday, the Cuban defeated Ecuador's Fernando Delgado 4-1, but beating him will be essential to secure his place in the Paris multi-sport event.

On the same day, Jorge Cuellar (71 kg) did not achieve the desired result, as he lost 1-4 to Jordan's Zeyad Ashash, known for beating Cuban star Roniel Iglesias.

Also without quotas, the universal silver medalists Erislandy Alvarez (63.5 kg) and Fernando Arzola (+92 kg) finished on Saturday, after losing to Bakhodur Usmonov of Tajikistan and Danabieke Bayikewuzi of China, respectively.

Earlier, Legnis Cala (57 kg) and Yakelin Estornell (66 kg), the only women in the Cuban national team, had been eliminated on their way to the Olympic berths.

Cuba already has two quotas, those contributed to the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games by two-time Olympic champions Julio Cesar La Cruz (92 kg) and Arlen Lopez (80 kg), and world silver medalist Saidel Horta (57 kg).
The other world pre-Olympic competition is scheduled to take place on May 23 to June 3 in Bangkok, Thailand.
