Cubans in sport shooting for more Olympic tickets to Paris 2024

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 11 (ACN) Cuba's top shooting stars are getting ready to compete at the 14th Americas Rifle and Pistol Championship, to be held March 31 to April 8, which will give tickets to the Olympic Games in Paris.

This Olympic qualifying tournament will be held at the Tiro Federal Argentino venue in Buenos Aires, where Cuban shooters will go in search of more quotas to the summer event in Paris.

Among the representatives of the Island who will try to reach their places are Jorge Felix Alvarez, golden in the Pan American Games of Lima 2019 in the rapid fire pistol at 25 meters (m), and Laina Perez, in the sport pistol at 25 m, also monarch in the Peruvian capital.

So far, the only Caribbean nation to qualify for the sport is double Olympic medalist Leuris Pupo.

Pupo, champion at London 2012 Olympic Games and silver medalist at Tokyo 2020, won his ticket two years ago by winning the 25 m rapid fire pistol title at the Pan American Championships in that discipline held in Lima.
