Cuba finished second at Youth World Boxing Cup in Budva

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 11 (ACN) Cuba closed on Sunday its performance at the Youth Boxing World Cup in second place by countries with three gold medals and one silver one, in the final lineup of the Adriatic Pearl competition in Budva 2024, with Russia as leader with five titles.

The digital edition of the sports publication JIT highlighted that Yojander Fuentes, in the 57 kilograms (kg), Yurisniel Abreu (75 kg) and Javier Alexander Sayas (86 kg) climbed to the top of the podium on Sunday after they all won by unanimous 5-0 vote.

The only Cuban who could not win in the discussion of the crown was Yoelvis Leyan Tejera (63.5 kg), in a decision questioned by specialists.

JIT detailed that Fuentes defeated the Russian David Balanov, Abreu defeated the Indian Kundu Rahul and Sayas defeated the also representative of India Sangwan Hemant.

On the setback suffered by Tejera, the 3-2 favorable to the Greek Enmanouil Fotaidis was considered unfair by coach Santiago Suarez, who commented that the European was even penalized for grappling and not putting up a fight.

He also stressed that Cuba also deserved the choice of Abreu as the most technical of the competition, in which Cuban Angel Manuel Sober (48 kg) finished with the bronze medal, as well as that with this result, half of the team from Cuba ascended to the podium in that city.
