HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 5 (ACN) Cuban boxer Jorge Cuellar will face Tongan Taufa Levemaau today in the continuation of the pre-Olympic competition, which will conclude on March 14 in Busto Arzizio, Italy.
Cuellar, of 71 kilograms (kg), will fight Tuesday against Levemaau, who defeated the Guinean Armando Bighafa, and will be the second fighter from Cuba to compete, as Legnis Cala (57 kg) did it before.
On Sunday, Legnis, runner-up in the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, lost 0-5 to China's Zichun Xu, a fighter with more international experience.
Cuban team is completed with world runners-up Erislandy Alvarez (63.5 kg) and Fernando Arzola (+92 kg), world bronze medalist Alejandro Claro (51 kg) and Central Caribbean bronze medalist Yakelin Estornell (66 kg).
In Busto Arzizio, 633 boxers from 115 teams will participate and will award tickets to all male semifinalists (four in each of the seven divisions) and 21 women: four in 50, 54, 66 and 75 kilograms, three in 60 and two in 57.
Cuba has already secured three places won by two-time Olympic champions Julio Cesar La Cruz (92 kg) and Arlen Lopez (80 kg) and two-time world runner-up Saidel Horta (57 kg).
