Cuba with two judokas today at the start of the Tashkent Grand Slam



HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 1 (ACN) Cubans Jonathan Charon and Orlando Polanco will be in action today in the first day of the Grand Slam of Judo in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, a competition that will conclude this Sunday with the participation of 495 representatives from 68 countries.

According to the International Federation website www.ijf.org, Charon, in the 60 kilograms (kg), and Polanco (66 kg) were bye Friday in the first round, so they will debut in the second round against Kazakhstan's Yeldos Smetov and Russia's Yago Abuladze, who competes for an independent team.

This Saturday, Magdiel Estrada (73 kg), Maylin del Toro (63 kg) and Idelannis Gomez (70 kg) will compete for Cuba, while on Sunday, Ivan Silva (90 kg), Andy Granda (+100 kg) and Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg) will compete for Cuba.

The Uzbek Grand Slam awards points for the World Ranking (WR) that defines the Olympic Ranking (OR) positions for the Paris 2024 Games.
