Havana, Feb 27 (ACN) Former world Chess champ, Grand master Ukrainian Ruslan Ponomariov, confirmed his participation at the Capablanca in Memoriam International Chess Championship to take place May 2-12 in this city capital.
Ponomariov currently ranks 92 in the world with 2 thousand 647 Elo points and in 2002 he became absolute Champion when was just 18 years old.
The Ukrainian Grand master will play for the first time in the Cuban classic along Indian Narayanan Sunilduth Lyna and Norwegian Aryan Tari. They three will make up a team of five foreign players.
Cuban Chess Federation president Carlos Rivero said that further details on the meet will be released by April including the names of the Cuban participants
Capablanca 2024 Chess Championship will be hosted by the Habana Libre Hotel in downtown Havana.
