HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 21 (ACN) Russian President Vladimir Putin and his counterparts from the Commonwealth of Independent States attended the opening of the 1st Games of the Future in the city of Kazan.
“Sports should be left out of politics and unite people instead,” the Russian leader said in his words to an audience of several hundreds. “We have participants from 104 countries, from different continents. There is no doubt that this will be for the good of all. (…) These Games are free from any political conjuncture, discrimination and double standards. I am sure that real sports will prevail on every court. Two thousand athletes from more than 100 countries will display their skills, perseverance and will to win.”
Among the personalities present were the Presidents of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, and Kazakhstan, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, who offered to host the 2nd Games next year.
The opening ceremony boasted Russia’s technological state of the art in fields like AI, robotics and space travel and an approach to future developments in city planning, medical science, agriculture, energy, and life.
Cuba’s athletes received a hearty applause from the audience, which included INDER president Osvaldo Vento Montiller and the Cuban ambassador to Russia, Julio Garmendía.
