HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 21 (ACN) At a meeting of high-ranking sports authorities and distinguished visitors, organized in the run-up to the 1st Games of the Future, Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), referred to Cuba’s presence at the event inaugurated Wednesday in the Russian city of Kazan as a great honor and thanked Russia for inviting the island to participate.
Vento Montiller reaffirmed Cuba’s willingness to establish a working group on sports within the framework of the Cuba-Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Commercial, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in order to promote the exchange of experiences between specialists from both countries, as well as to have Russian and Cuban athletes in sports events held in both countries.
The Cuban official also ratified the island’s support to the upcoming Brics Games—scheduled to be held in June in Kazan—and to the Friendship Games, in which Cuba’s top-level figures will compete.
Oleg Matytsin, Russia's Minister of Sport and host of the meeting, greeted the representatives of some 20 countries present, praised the Games for being innovative and drawing young people together, and wished success to all participants.
