HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 24 (ACN) The main figures of Cuban athletics, among them world championships medalists such as triple jumpers Lazaro Martinez, Leyanis Perez and Cristian Napoles, are training in Europe for the upcoming winter tours.
The group also includes high jumper Luis Zayas and triple jumper Liadagmis Povea, fourth and sixth, respectively, in the world event.
These five figures of Cuban sports—who are already qualified for the 2024 Olympics—will compete in several athletics meetings in France, Poland, Italy, Czech Republic and Slovakia before they participate in the World Indoor Championships, to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, on March 1 to 3.
In 2023, Cuban athletics finished first in the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador (9-7-5) and third in the Pan American Games of Santiago de Chile (7-6-5). The island also won one silver and two bronze medals in the 19th World Athletics Championship held in Budapest.
