Havana, Jan 15 (ACN) Narayanan Sunilduth Lyna is the the first chess player confirmed to join the elite group of the 57th Capablanca in Memoriam International Chess Tournament, to take place in Havana May 2-12.
Lyna with over 1.694 Elo points, which took him to the 42nd place on the world ranking. He’s got several prizes at international meets, including world championships.
The presence at the event of the renowned Indian Chess expert could be of encouragement for other outstanding players to come to the championship, said the president of the Cuban Chess Federation Carlos Rivera as he announced Lyna’s participation at the meet.
The Cuban participants will be picked after the national championship concludes in tune with their results.
The winner at the 2023 Capablanca in Memoriam International Chess Tournament was Danish Jonas Bjerre, who took 7 out of 10 possible points. He was followed by Brazilian Alexandr Fier and Cuban Luis Ernesto Quesada.
