HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 4 (ACN) Raul Trujillo, head coach of the Cuban Greco-Roman wrestling team, is already thinking about the year’s challenges as his athletes prepare for the Olympic Games in Paris, where Cuba expects to win three gold and two bronze medals, which he described as a demanding but not impossible goal.
Cuba has already secured three places in Paris 2024 thanks to its results in the World Wrestling Championships held in September 2023 in Serbia, where Luis Orta (67 kg) and Gabriel Rosillo (97 kg) finished first and Oscar Pino (130 kg) won the bronze medal. However, the latter will be replaced by the legendary Mijaín López, four-time Olympic champion and five-time winner of world championships.
To this end, the Greco-Roman wrestlers will have training programs in Norway, Croatia and Bulgaria as part of a competitive roadmap that benefits their preparation for the Olympic Games.
