Cuba to announce today the best athletes in 2023



HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 18 (ACN) Cuba's best athletes in 2023 will be announced today at the Ciudad Deportiva coliseum in Havana, where the performance of athletes with great results in these 12 months will be recognized.

Among the women, the most outstanding distinction will be disputed by judo player Idalys Ortiz, Yarisleidi Cirilo (canoeing), winner in 2022, freestyle wrestler Milaimy Marin and Leyanis Perez, in athletics.

Of these four, Cirilo seems to have the best chances, backed by her gold medal in the 200m C1 at the World Championship, in addition to winning the title in the same event at the 1st World Cup and at the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile.

As for men, the nominees are judo fighter Andy Granda, winner last year, Lazaro Martinez, in athletics, along with Greco-Roman wrestlers Luis Orta and Gabriel Rosillo.

Orta and Rosillo stand out in this list, champions in the wrestling event, as well as in the San Salvador Central Caribbean Games and in the Santiago 2023 multisport continental competition.

As usual in this annual survey, the most outstanding team and collective sport will be chosen, together with the athletes with the most outstanding performance by teams, in the women's and men's categories, respectively.

Also Monday, the 10 best Cuban athletes of 2023 will be announced, in recognition of the results obtained in the different scenarios at national and international level, as well as the winners in the categories of Event of the Year and Rookie with the most outstanding performance, best contract athlete and the non-individual event.
