HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 12 (ACN) The Central American and Caribbean championship for women and the senior mixed male-female championship are two of the international chess competitions that Cuba will host in 2024, according to Carlos Rivero, president of the Cuban chess federation.
“Having more than one chess tournament at a time is common practice around the world, as we did in May, and successfully so, when we held the continental competition for women alongside the Capablanca Memorial,” he stressed.
The senior championship will feature the categories 50+ and 60+, a usual division in these events.
Likewise, Cuba will organize the Central American and Caribbean school championship for players in the 7 to 17 age group.
The designations came out of the recent FIDE America’s General Assembly held in Panama, which also approved financial aid for Cuba to be used mainly to purchase airline tickets to international events.
