
HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 20 (ACN) Cuban parajudokas Sheyla Hernandez and Yordanis Fernandez won gold medals today in over 70 and over 90 kilograms (kg), in that order, at the closing of this discipline of the 7th Parapan American Games of Santiago de Chile 2013, at the Combat Sports Center.
According to the official site of the Chilean multisport event, Cuban Hernandez, world and J1 J2 class runner-up, defeated by Ippon to Brazilian Meg Rodrigues, who was also about to be disqualified, as she received two warnings -Shidos- before the projection of the triumph.
Meanwhile, Fernandez (over 90 kg/J 1 J2), bronze medalist at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympic Games and champion in the previous edition of Lima 2019, retained the crown also by Ippon against Brazilian Willians Silva, who could do little on the tatami.
Today also competed for Cuba, Ariagna Hechevarria (70 kg), who achieved a victory and two setbacks in Group A in the round-robin system, which guaranteed the bronze medal, and Reinaldo Zamora (90 kg), who lost in his debut.
With these results, the Caribbean island's parajudo accumulated two gold and three bronze medals, two of which were won on the previous day, only surpassed by Brazil (6-4-3) and ahead of Argentina (0-3-3) in the medal standings.
