Diaz-Canel congratulates parathlete winners this Sunday at Santiago de Chile 2023 Games

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 20 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, congratulated the Cuban parathletes who won medals in shooting, judo, swimming and powerlifting at the 7th Parapan American Games in Santiago de Chile on Sunday.

From his official account on X, the head of state dedicated a congratulatory message to Yenigladys Suarez, for her gold medal in the 10-meter air pistol, with which she is now a two-time champion and Parapan American record holder.

Diaz-Canel highlighted in his message the concentration of the parapistol shooter and expressed his emotion when he saw her smiling wrapped in the flag and heard her gratitude to the Revolution.

Another publication of the president in the same social network highlighted the silver medals won by Di Angelo Loringa in the 10-meter air pistol (m) and weightlifter Pablo Ramirez in the 54 kilograms (kg); and the bronze medals won by parajudokas Jose Romero and Jennys Garcia (both in the 73 kg), para-swimmer Lorenzo Perez Escalona in the 100 m freestyle, and para-weightlifter Leydis Rodriguez (45 kg).

The Cuban President acknowledged the athletes' sacrifice to return to sports form after suffering injuries, as well as the support they receive from their families and coaches.

Cuba was in eighth place in the Parapan American medals table, with two gold, three silver and five bronze medals, the three leaders being Brazil (33-21-22), the United States (11-11-11) and Argentina (9-8-12).
