
HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 20 (ACN) Cuba will seek today to achieve another good day at the 7th Parapan American Games Santiago de Chile 2023, with presence in parajudo, para-weightsçlifting, para-sports and archery, and para table tennis.
After winning three medals (1-1-1) and seven (1-2-4) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, the Caribbean nation was in eighth place on Monday.
The goal is to climb positions and for this they will have to win gold medals, which define positions, so Cuban para-athletes need podiums, but mainly on the highest place.
The parajudo, weights and paratiro are the only three disciplines with finals scheduled and could bring prizes.
In judo, Reinaldo Zamora (90 kg), Sheila Hernandez (+70 kg) and Ariagna Hechevarria (70 kg), who must advance from the preliminaries.
Jaime Bongo (86 kg) and Oniger Drake (80 kg) will also have a chance to advance in the pole vault, while Alexander Reyna, Di Angelo Loriga and Yenigladis Suarez will be fine-tuning their marksmanship in the 50-meter mixed pistol, in the shooting range.
The archery and table paratable tennis will try to maintain the winning pace to compete in their respective finals in the following days with their focus on the top.
Then it is a matter of these sports maintaining the winning pace to contribute to the purpose of the Cuban delegation of 53 para-athletes in 10 disciplines: to win 35 medals (13-6-16), a similar amount to that achieved four years ago in Lima, when they finished in seventh place by countries.
