HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 13 (ACN) Cuba won the bronze medal and one of the four world quotas granted by the 1st North, Central America and Caribbean Continental Championship (Norceca) U17 men's volleyball tournament at the Miguel Hidalgo Gymnasium in Poza Rica, Veracruz.
Cubans defeated Costa Rica 3-0 on Sunday in the match for the bronze medal, with dominance in all aspects of the match and individual highlights for Yosdani Medina, top scorer of the match with 16 points.
According to the website www.norceca.net, Medina scored 13 points in attack, one in blocking and two in service, followed by his teammates Julio Alberto Acosta (10/9-0-1) and Byron Herrera (9/9-0-0), while for the Costa Ricans Julian David Soto de Franco (13/12-1-0) stood out.
The official statistics of the match reflect the superiority of Mario Raul Izquierdo's disciples in attack (49-27), blocking (6-2) and service (6-3), as well as in their own errors, as they surrendered five points less than their rivals (13-18).
In Sunday's other match, Honduras overcame Suriname 3-1 to finish in the eighth and ninth places, in that order, and the fifth through seventh places were also defined, with Guatemala, Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, respectively.
