Cuba hosts Gran Torneo Cuba Golf 2023 at the resort city of Varadero

 

VARADERO, Cuba, Oct 24 (ACN) The 13th edition of the Gran Torneo Cuba (Great Cuba Golf Tournament), sponsored by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism and Palmares S.A. Extra-Hotel Company, will begin this Wednesday and will last until Saturday in this seaside resort city, with the presence of 54 competitors from countries like Canada, Germany and the United States.

The tournament, which celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Varadero Golf Club, the first golf course in the Caribbean island, will host professional and amateur players over 18 years of age in Medal Play and Stableford for men and Stableford only for women.

According to the official announcement of the event, prizes will also be awarded to those who show the best skills in the test "Close to the flag in a competition hole", during an event that will also include practice rounds, welcome cocktail, closing dinner, night activities and tastings of renowned Cuban rums.

Jose E. Tobar Pineda, director of the Varadero Golf Club, exclusively told the Cuban News Agency that the Gran Torneo Cuba Golf 2023 is aimed at a gradual recovery process of this modality of tourism on the island, which was very damaged by the COVID-19 pandemic period.

Juan C. Garcia Granda, the Caribbean nation's minister of Tourism, recently acknowledged that the development of events in Varadero shows that the main sun and beach destination is also consolidating in other tourism modalities and offers guarantees for greater efforts in the near future.

The Gran Torneo Cuba Golf 2023 becomes a unique opportunity to boost tourism and sports on the island, as well as for golfers to get to know the charms of the Cuban archipelago, to combine days of competition with moments of relaxation on the beach, and to explore the exuberant nature and the picturesque nearby cities.
