Cuba wins silver with photofinish in rowing at Pan American Games

 

SANTIAGO DE CHILE, Oct 24 (ACN) A very close regatta starred today the boats of Chile and Cuba in the final A of the four long oars without coxswain (M4-) of the 19th Pan American Games of Santiago de Chile 2023.

Located in lanes six and five, in that order, the breath was heard from the first to the 2000 meter of the track located in Laguna Grande San Pedro de la Paz, where they practically closed the race with a photo finish.

Chileans dominated the race until after the first 1,000 meters, when the Cubans took the lead and crossed the buoy located at 1,500 meters with a narrow advantage.

The locals won with a time of 5:58.18 minutes, while the Cubans and Uruguayans for second and third place scored 5:58.68 and 6:01.91, respectively.

The Cuban boat was formed by Andrey Barnet, Leduar Suarez, Carlos Ajete and Reydi Cardona, all of them protagonists on Monday of the crown in eight long rowing with coxswain, so that they climb for the second time to the podium in this multidisciplinary competition.

In addition, this Wednesday, the final date of rowing, Cuba will take part in the finals A of the double sculls (m and f) and in the unprecedented eight with mixed coxswain, in his opinion a "box of surprises". He acknowledged his hopes of returning to the awards podium.
