Santiago de Chile, Oct 23 (ACN) Cuban Legnis Cala became the first female boxer from the island to have won in Pan-American games.
In what is considered the highest level ever reached by Cuban women’s boxing, Cala got her victory in 57 kilos after defeating Mexican Jennifer Carillo 4-1 at the games underway in Santiago de Chile.
The Cuban boxer was runner-up at San Salvador Central American and Caribbean Games held in 2023.
This victory took Cala to the quarter finals in which Olimpic and World champs Arlen Lopez (80 kilos) and Julio Cesar La Cruz (92 kilos) have already secured their bronze after classifying to semifinals.
