Cuban president highlights sports achievements of athlete Leuris Pupo

 

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 23 (ACN) Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel described Leuris Pupo as the greatest sports shooter of all time after winning the gold medal in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol at the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile.

In a message of congratulations for the medal, on X, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba said that the concentration and resilience have determined each title of the Cuban, double Olympic medalist and three-time Pan American champion.

"What a joy when I heard the news. Third Pan American gold medal for Leuris Pupo, and second for #Cuba in #Santiago2023," the head of state also wrote.

Behind the Cuban shooter, who obtained 30 points, completed the podium of awards the Venezuelan Douglas Gomez (26) and the US Henry Leverett (23), silver and bronze medalists, respectively, in the competition that took place in the Pudahuel Shooting Range.

Leuris Pupo won the gold medal in the London 2012 five-hole shooting event and the silver medal in Tokyo 2020, and was champion in the multisport competitions of Santo Domingo 2003 and Rio de Janeiro 2007.

Having qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Pupo told the press that he will prepare very well for this summer event with the aim of continuing to bring joy to all those who follow his performance.
