Cuba in finals of women's 400 m in athletics of San Salvador 2023

 

HAVANA,Cuba, Jul 4 (ACN) Cuban runners Roxana Gomez and Lisneidy Veitia guaranteed today their tickets to the final of the 400 meters flat (m/p), in the athletics of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador.

Gomez, Olympic finalist in Tokyo 2020 and member of Cuba's gold medal winning 4x400 m/p in the World Relay Championship hosted by Poland in 2021, finished with a time of 51.36 seconds (s), the same as the winner of heat 1, Mexico's Paola Moran.

Meanwhile, in heat 2, Veitia, also a starter on Polish territory, clocked 53.11 seconds to place fourth in that race, and although she did not secure her place directly, she did it as one of the two best records that completed the list of eight finalists.

Also on Tuesday at the Jorge "El Magico" Gonzalez National Stadium, Yoandys Lescay and Leonardo Castillo were out of the final in the men's 400m/p, for Cuba.

Lescay finished sixth and last in the first heat by stopping the clocks in 51.38 seconds; while Castillo finished fourth in the third heat with 47.31 seconds.
