HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 20 (ACN) The Cuban senior national soccer team will play today its second and last practice match in the so-called June FIFA Date, and its rival will be the powerful team of Uruguay at the famous Centenario stadium in Montevideo.
After losing 3-0 to Chile on June 11 at the Roa Rebolledo stadium in Concepcion, the Lions of the Caribbean will face a Charrua team on Tuesday that, led by its new Argentine coach Marcelo "El Loco" Bielsa, has already made its debut with a 4-0 thrashing against Nicaragua. Rodrigo Zalazar, the German Schalke 04 striker, as well as Matias Arezo and Brian Rodriguez, scored twice.
Against the Red of America, the Caribbean team coached by Pablo Elier Sanchez, with several notable absentees, did not receive a bigger scoreline because of the 25 shots of the southern team, four hit the posts or the crossbar.
Cuban fans hope that today Pablo Elier will change that design and take a little more risk.
In this call-up against Cuba, for the South Americans stand out names such as Facundo Pellistri, Manchester United striker; Matias Vecino, Lazio midfielder; Diego Rossi, Turkish Fenerbache striker and Matias Viña, defender of F. C. Bournemouth of the Premier League, among others.
Cuba is playing these matches in preparation for the Gold Cup in the United States, whose debut is scheduled for the coming 27th against Guatemala.
