
HAVANA, Cuba, May 5 (ACN) Cuban triple jumper Lazaro Martinez, world indoor champion in Belgrade, Serbia, last year, will be in action today at the first stop of the Wanda 2023 Diamond League, to be held in Doha, Qatar.
Martinez is the only Cuban athlete confirmed for the premiere of that prestigious event, according to the list released by the organizers.
This competition has 14 stages in different cities around the world, including the final to be held in Eugene, United States, on September 16 and 17 of this year.
On those days, the finalists in each one of the events will compete in search of the desired jewel.
So far, so far this season, the athlete from the Caribbean nation has the best mark of 17.24 meters (m), achieved last February at the Paris meeting, France, with silver category of the World Athletics Indoor Tour.
In that event, Martinez finished in second place, behind Hugues Fabrice Zango (17.43 m), from Burkina Faso, bronze medalist in Tokyo 2020.
For life, Martinez has a personal best of 17.64 m, achieved in March 2022 at the World Indoor Athletics Championships, held in Belgrade, where he won the gold medal.
