
HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 25 (ACN) Sprinter Shainer Rengifo and hurdler Keily Perez will be the first Cubans to debut today in a competition hosted by Valencia, Spain, as part of the winter athletics tour of the current year 2023.
Rengifo was third in 100 meters in the 2021 World Junior Championships of Nairobi, Kenya, in 2021, and winner last May of the Ibero-American Championships in Alicante, Spain, whereas Perez was silver medalist in the latter event.
Ten Cubans will be in this winter tour, including long jumper Maykel Massó—third in Tokyo 2020—and triple jumper Lázaro Martínez—world indoor champion in Belgrade, Serbia, in March 2022—as well as Maikel Vidal (long jump), Luis Enrique Zayas (high jump) and Cristian Nápoles, Liadagmis Povea and Leyanis Pérez (triple jump).
After Valencia, Leyanis and Povea will compete in Karlsruhe, Germany on the 27th, and on the 31st, Zayas will be in an athletic event in Nehvizdy, Czech Republic.
