HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 30 (ACN) Cuban sports closed 2022 with numerous athletes with tickets for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, both in 2023, and the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, in that order, numbers that should increase.
Undoubtedly, those will be the main ones, but the 5th ALBA-TCP Games are also scheduled for next year, in March-April, and the 2nd World Sea Games, from August 5 to 15, so there is only one pre-selection of 1,022 athletes.
According to what has been announced, the number of athletes for the Salvadoran event, from June 23 to July 8, is distributed in 161 men and the same number of women, in 17 disciplines, while for the Chilean event, from October 20 to November 5, the presence of 15 Cubans is already guaranteed.
Considering the above, Cuba should attend San Salvador with around 500 athletes, with emphasis once again for combat sports: boxing, wrestling, judo and taekwondo, in addition to athletics, in which will be the greatest possibilities of titles and medals in general.
Of special importance will be the participation - pending 20 qualifying tournaments - in the run-up to Santiago de Chile, which will also host the Parapan American Games, from November 17 to 26.
That competition will have a high level, since it has been announced that there will be several competitions that will award direct tickets to Paris 2024, from July 26 to August 11.
It is important to point out that all of them are looking for their places, without forgetting the athletes with disabilities who will be at the Parapan American and Paralympic Games in the French capital, from August 28 to September 8.
