HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 25 (ACN) The Cuban duos of Amanda Armenteros-Jennifer Rivera and Noslen Diaz-Jorge Luis Alayo advanced to the quarterfinals of the beach volleyball tournament of the 1st Central American and Caribbean Games of Santa Marta 2022, after finishing undefeated in the group stage.
Amanda and Jennifer made their debut on Wednesday with a 2-0 win over the Salvadoran duo of Funes-Velasquez, in section C, and Diaz and Alayo overcame the Mexican duo of Galicia-Aguirre, 2-0, in section D.
Victories two and three came on Thursday, when the Cubans beat Jamaica's Ashman-Lewis and Trinidad and Tobago's Choon-Selvon, 2-0, in that order.
Meanwhile, Diaz and Alayo also won 2-0, with successes against Ward-Richards, from St. Kitts and Nevis, and Jn Pierre-Victor, from St. Lucia, respectively.
With these results, the Cuban teams advanced to the quarterfinals and will now wait for the winners of the second and third place matches in each group.
Cuba participates in the multidisciplinary competition with 14 athletes, six in sailing, four in open water swimming and four in beach volleyball.
