HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 17 (ACN) Cuban Rafael Alba, two-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist, will take to the mats today at the World Taekwondo Championships in Mexico, where he is considered a favorite for the gold medal.
Alba (+87 kg) will be the only one of the eight Cuban athletes who will be in the second round of 32 competitors as he waits for his rival, the winner of the match between Aboubacar Soumah (Guinea) and Andreas Stylianu (Cyprus).
On Saturday, World Taekwondo granted Alba the Special Tokyo Olympic Medalist Award in a gala prior to the world competition in Guadalajara.
