HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 9 (ACN) Cuban parajudokas Yordani Fernández (+90 kg, J2 category), Reynaldo Zamora (90 kg-J1) and Sheila Samarian (+70 kg-J2) will compete today in the individual tournament of the World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, which gathered 241 athletes from 41 countries.
Fernandez, Paralympic champion of Rio 2016 and Team Cuba’s trump card, will be opposite the Kazakh Y. Konkiye, whereas Zamora and Samarian will debut against the Georgian G. Beridze and the British K. Taylor, respectively.
The main goal of the Cuban athletes is to qualify according to the new rules laid down by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) and improve their world ranking with a view to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
