
HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 8 (ACN) Cuban Laina Perez placed 14th today in the 25-meter (m) pistol, in the qualifying phase of precision shooting, corresponding to the Pan American Shooting Championship held in Lima, Peru.
Perez, winner of the title on Monday in the mixed team modality of the 10-meter air pistol, along with her partner Jorge Grau, scored 281 points with shots of 95, 93 and 93 units in the three heats, to complete the first competitive day in that event.
Also in that discipline, her compatriot Claudia Hernandez (270/89-88-93) placed 31st out of 42 registered athletes, according to the official website of the International Federation of that sport.
Tomorrow, both Cuban athletes will try to improve their position in the 25-meter pistol rapid fire stage, to try to be among the eight finalists who will fight for the medals.
Alejandro Molerio, Rainier Quintanilla and Eddy Vazquez were also in action today for the Caribbean nation in the qualifying round of the 10-meter air rifle.
So far, the Cubans have accumulated two gold and two bronze medals in this qualifying tournament for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023, and also for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the latter to which the winners of some of the specialties will guarantee a place.
