Cuban mixed team wins gold in Pan American Shooting Championship

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 7 (ACN) The Cuban mixed team made up of Laina Perez and Jorge Grau won today the title in the 10-meter (m) air pistol, corresponding to the Pan American Shooting Championship held in Lima, Peru.

Grau and Perez defeated 16-14 in the final of that event the Ecuadorian pair formed by Andrea Perez and Yautung Cueva, who had dominated the qualifying phase with 575 points.

With this result, the Cuban duo repeated the golden conquest of three years ago in the continental multisport event.

Both representatives of the island came second in the qualifying round with 571 units, which gave them the right to dispute the crown, according to the official website of the International Federation of that sport.

For the bronze medal in this modality, Mexicans Alejandra Zavala and Daniel Urquiza defeated local shooters Annia Becerra and Marko Carrillo with a wide difference of 17-7.

Also in this mixed team competition, Cubans Sheyla Gonzalez and Guillermo Pias finished 13th with a score of 558, in a competition in which 25 couples competed.

Cuba now has two medals in this event, with the bronze medal won this Sunday by Grau in the individual specialty of the 10 m air pistol, which was won by Philipe Chateaubrian, from Brazil, escorted by Nickolaus Mowrer, from the United States.
