
HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 1 (ACN) Cuba's men's and women's teams lost in the quarterfinals of the Pan American Table Tennis Championship in Santiago de Chile, a qualifier for the world championship and the 2023 Pan American Games.
The team formed by Daniela Fonseca and Idalys Lovet lost to Puerto Rico, formed by Daniely Rios, Brianna Burgos and Melanie Diaz.
Lovet, the most experienced, won the first game with a 3-2 score over Rios, then the Olympian Fonseca was defeated 3-2 by Burgos and Lovet 3-2 by Diaz, according to the results tables on the ITTF Americas website.
Rios decided the challenge with an impressive 3-0 victory over Fonseca, the best Cuban player, beaten 14-12, 11-9 and 11-8.
Among men, the Cubans were swept 3-0 by the US, Eday Rojas was defeated 3-2 by Sharon Alguetti, Jorge Moises Campos 3-1 by Kanak Jha and Livan Martinez 3-2 by Alguetti.
Tomorrow Cuba will compete in the round of 32 of the mixed doubles and in the round of 16 of the men's and women's doubles.
