HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 11 (ACN) Cuba continued today without a medal in the seventh and penultimate day of the individual tournament of the World Judo Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, when Kaliema Antomarchi lost by Ippon to Germany's Alina Boehm.
Antomarchi's defeat is the eighth failed attempt of the Cubans to reach the podium, as previously Danny Porte (60 kg), Melissa Hurtado (52 kg), Orlando Polanco (66 kg), Arnaes Odelin (57 kg), Magdiel Estrada (73 kg), Maylin del Toro (63 kg) and Ivan Silva (90 kg), in that order, lost.
The last chances of medals for the Cubans will be on Wednesday in the last day of the individual tournament, when Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg), multiple Olympic (2-2-1) and world (2-2-4) medalist and thirteenth in the world ranking, and Andy Granda (+100 kg), twelfth in the world ranking, who will be accompanied in the division by the young Omar Cruz, will make their debut.
Ortiz will have his first rival in the Georgian Sophio Somjhivili, Granda in the Hungarian Richard Siponcz and Cruz in the Bahraini Azamat Chotchaev.
