HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 21 (ACN) Cubans Carlos Andrei Ajete and Boris Luis Guerra dropped in the quarterfinals of the short sculls double pair (2x), open category, at the World Rowing Championships in Recise, Czech Republic.
Ajete and Guerra were unable to advance by finishing fifth in their heat -four in total- with a time of 06:38.64 minutes, and only the first three boats advanced to the A/B semifinals, and the fourth to the C/D semifinals.
The event was dominated by the Croatian team ( 06:21.49), followed by the boats from Moldova (06:23.25), Italy (06:23.67) and Serbia (06:24.34),
Milena Venegas and Yariulvis Cobas -also international debutants as a pair- competed for Cuba in the women's 2x, but were left out of the world championship after finishing in sixth and last place in the preliminaries, a performance that denied them the chance to advance to the repechage.
The main objective of Ajete-Guerra and Venegas-Cobas is to continue preparing -competing- for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador and the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, both in 2023.
