Havana, Aug 18 (ACN) Alberto Juantorena, president of the Cuban Athletics Federation and two times Olympic Champ is progressing satisfactorily at hospital after days in critical conditions due to the effects of Dengue Fever type 3 with complications derived from COVID-19.
Doctor Anabel Hernandez Ruiz, intensive care specialist at Havana’s Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute said that Juantorena (71) is now progressing with stability and control of his cardio-respiratory functions. He is responding well to anti-microbial and anti-hypertensive treatment and without need of supplementary oxygen.
The doctor added that the patient is also presenting progressive neurological improvement, which has allowed to advance integral treatment.
Alberto Juantorena is considered one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century and one of the best Cuban athletes in history. His health condition has been at the center of concern for the local sports movement, for his many fans and the Cuban people in general.
