Cuban Ariel Martinez shined as left fielder for Chunichi Dragons, the others with good pace at NPB



HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 5 (ACN) Cuban Ariel Martinez shined today in his first appearance of the season when he was 3-2, with two singles, a run scored and a tow, in the 7-6 victory of the Chunichi Dragons against the Yakult Swallows in Japanese professional baseball.

At the Meiji Jingu Stadium, Tokyo, and in the Central zone, the Cuban played as Chunichi's starting left fielder, left his starting average at 667 and got his first hit of the year.

His compatriot and teammate, closer Raidel Martinez earned his third save by striking out two of the three batters he faced in one inning of relief. His effectiveness dropped to 1.80.

Also, reliever Yariel Rodriguez struck out one batter in a perfect inning to keep his effectiveness at 0.00. Meanwhile, his compatriot, starter Dayan Viciedo hit 5-2, with two singles and a run scored, to raise his average to 250.

In another game of the day, the Lotte Marinos defeated the Nippon Ham Wrestlers, 2-0, at the Sapporo Dome. For Lotte, the shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria hit two singles in four innings, scored a run and towed a teammate to raise his average to 333.

Meanwhile, also for Lotte, outfielder Leonys Martin went 4-1, with a hit and a strikeout, to have an average of 129.

And the SoftBank Falcons won 6-3 against the Orix Buffaloes, at the Pay Pay Dome, in Fukuoka. For the Falcons, Cuban Yurisbel Gracial hit 2-1, with one hit and two walks, to improve his average to 250.
