HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 5 (ACN) The Pan American Wrestling Championship to be held in Acapulco, Mexico, May 3-8, will be the most immediate event for Cuban gladiators in their competitive agenda for the current year.
Martin Torres, national commissioner of that sport, told the Cuban News Agency that the Caribbean nation will compete in that tournament with a mix of established and young athletes, in search of the nine remaining tickets for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile.
For that continental multisport event, we have already secured nine places, four in the Greco-Roman style, in addition to five in the women's and men's freestyle, he said.
In the classical specialty there are still two places to be filled, along with three in the men's freestyle and four in the women's freestyle, Torres affirmed.
Regarding the qualifying process for the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, he stated that it will be held in the Dominican Republic in November this year.
The main contenders remain in the national team -including the extra class Mijain Lopez-, with a view to the main competitions of the Olympic cycle that will close in Paris 2024, the executive concluded.
