Three Cubans to compete in opening of short course swimming world championship



HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 14 (ACN) Elisbet Gamez, Luis Vega and Adrian Navarro will participate for Cuba in the first day of the 15th Short Course Swimming World Championship in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, host of the tournament in 25-meter pool, December 16-21.

Gamez, 24-year-old swimmer and main protagonist in the last eight years in Cuba, boasts among her best results in short course the bronze in 800 m free at the 7th stop of the World Cup in Singapore in November 2018, won after breaking Cuban records in 100, 200, 400 and 800 m free and disputing other finals in the stops of the circuit in Beijing and Tokyo, and in Abu Dhabi she will compete in 200 meters (m) free, in search of a good time and reach the final.

The official website of the tourment also shows, among the competitions of the first day, the 200 m butterfly and 400 m freestyle for men, where Luis Vega and Adrian Navarro will compete, in that order.

In the contest, Gamez will also compete in 400 m freestyle, Vega in 100 butterfly and Navarro in 200 freestyle, while Andrea Becali will do so in 100 and 200 backstroke, thanks to places granted by the International Swimming Federation (FINA).

Abu Dhabi hosts the world's best swimmers at the iconic Etihad Arena and, in parallel to the world championship, an Aquatic Festival will be held in three additional FINA disciplines, diving, high diving and open water swimming.
