Cuban wrestlers to see action today in Junior Pan Am Games

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 1 (ACN) The Cuban Greco-Roman wrestlers will go into action today in the First Junior Pan American Games held in Cali, Colombia.

Cuba will have six gladiators on the mats, headed by Jeisser Sampson (130 kg), Junior Pan American champion in Oaxtepec, Mexico, last June.

Completing the list are Roismel Danger (60 kg), Yonat David Veliz (67 kg), Alain Andrés Moreno (77 kg), Yan Luis Algudín (87 kg) and Liober Betancourt (97 kg).

The freestyle wrestlers will enter the eliminatory phase and the semifinals in each of the six divisions on Wednesday, according to the official site of the event.

Cuba participates in these Games with a full team of 18 athletes, including six men and six women in the freestyle category, who are likely to win more than one gold medal for the Island, according to Cuban Wrestling Federation president Luis de la Portilla.

Among the Greco-Roman wrestlers, he mentioned Sampson—winner of the continental wrestling championships—as a serious contender for the title in his weight.
