Cuban tennis players to compete for world ranking points in Dominican Republic

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 23 (ACN) Cuban teams of both sexes will compete from Nov. 27 to Dec. 12 in the Dominican Republic in search of the most points for the ranking, after the bleak 2020 and 2021 calendars due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We believe they can return with good news," Alexander Ferrales Gonzalez, president of the Cuban Tennis Federation, said in statements to the institutional sports publication Jit.

We aspire for our athletes to obtain points that will help them go to the Central Caribbean and Pan American Games, so as not to depend on invitations that, if granted, put them up against the best-placed players, which makes it difficult to progress in the competitions, the coach added.

Yusleydis Diaz, Roxana Valdes, Sachely Carrera, Osmel Rivera, Yoan Perez, Maikol Ponte and Osviel Turiño, all with international experience, will represent Cuba at Santo Domingo.
