Assignment of numbers for 35th Marabana race begins today

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 17 (ACN) The delivery of numbered tags to runners who will participate in the 35th Marabana race will begin today at the headquarters of Marabana/Maracuba project in Havana.

Project director Carlos Gattorno told ACN that as part of the three-day process it’s important that each racer submits both his/her COVID-19 vaccination card and the tag posted on the Facebook page @andarinescubanos.

Marabana will kick off Sunday only with Cuban runners. Foreigners who wish to join the race may do so virtually from their countries.

According to Gattorno, there will be 3,000 participants who will run 13 km and, since this Marabana marks the resumption of these events in Cuba, it will not be a competitive race intended to celebrate the reunion of Cuban runners/walkers after two years of restrictions due to the pandemic.
Pursuant to the health protocols, the participants must wear their face mask at all times and may only take it off when they reach the seafront avenue, but they must put it back on as soon as they reach the finish line.

Hand hygiene facilities will be provided, and all participants will have their temperature measured and get a bottle of water before the start of the race.

Marabana will be held in the city of Havana, whereas the 3-km-long Maracuba race will take place everywhere else in the country.

These activities for peace, in opposition to the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba and in support of the Revolution, are part of the celebrations for the 502nd Anniversary of the Foundation of the Village of San Cristobal de la Habana and for Physical Culture and Sports Day on November 19.
