Cuba vs. USA today in Women’s Pan American Volleyball Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 16 (ACN) The Cuban women's team will face the United States today, in the penultimate day of the qualifying stage of the 19th Senior Pan American Volleyball Cup, to be held until Sunday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Coach Joel Oldazabal's young disciples will try to achieve their first victory, this time against the Americans, after losing 0-3 to the Dominican Republic, 0-3 to the Canadians, and 2-3 to the Mexicans.

In the loss to Mexico, the scores were 25-22, 24-26, 25-17, 16-25 and 10-15, which shows that the match was quite leveled. The Cubans were better in blocking—13 to Mexico’s 9—and unforced errors—25-32—but the Mexicans mastered the attacks (61-47) and services (10-8).

On Wednesday, the Americans and Dominicans blanked Canada and Puerto Rico, respectively, and are leading the tournament with three wins and no losses, followed by Canada (2-1), Mexico (1-2), Cuba (0-3) and Puerto Rico (0-3).

Puerto Rico will be Cuba’s next opponent on Friday, at the end of the round-robin qualifiers. The medals will be discussed on Sunday.
