Havana, Feb 16 (ACN) A group of Cuban Parathletes arrived in the Arab Emirates capital Dubai Tuesday for a training season ahead of their contesting of the Tunis 2021 World Para Athletics Grand Prix scheduled March 18-20.
Multi-champion sprinter Osmara Durant (a deep visually impaired person classified underT-12 ) and her guide head the group which also includes 4-hundred runner Cristian Carlos Guillen (classified T47 with upper limb amputated), discus thrower Leonardo Diaz (classified F56 /wheelchair) and javelin throwers Guillermo Varona (classified F46/upper limb amputation) and Uliser Aguilera(F13/visually impaired).
The Cuban Parathletes will train in Dubai till March 14 and that day they will travel to Tunisia to contest the Grand Prix in order to get records for the Tokyo Paralympics.
Parathletics Sports technical manager Jorge Palma said that only two of all 13 Cuban pre-selection members (Duran and Aguilera) have valid records to contest the Tokyo games to be held August 24-September 5 this year.
Cuban Parathletes garnered 10 out of all 16 medals in Rio de Janeiro four years ago with Duran winning the titles in the 100, 200 and 400 meter categories.
