Cuban Despaigne fired his first two homers in 2020 NPB season

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 9 (ACN) Cuban Alfredo Despaigne blasted his first two homers of the season and drove in four runs in the 8-1 away victory of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks over the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in the Japan Professional Baseball League (NPB).

The powerful Caribbean slugger started the campaign very erratic on the offensive due to a discomfort in his left knee, but today, in his fifth game of the year he knew how to get out of the slump and raised his batting average (BA) to .263.
His compatriot and teammate, Yurisbel Gracial, who batted fourth in the Hawks´ line-up, went 1 for 3 and scored once with a walk to raise his BA to .320.
Meanwhile, right-hander reliever Raidel Martinez maintained his good performance when pitching a scoreless frame to reduce his ERA to 0.72, but his team, the Chunichi Dragons, lost 4-5 to the Yomiuri Giants.
In that same match, 1B Dayan Viciedo hit 2 for 4 and drove in a run to accumulate seven games in a row batting hits; in addition, he raised his BA to .285 and his RBIs to 54, figure that reaffirms him as second best in that stat in the NPB Central League.
And in another game of the day, OF Leonys Martin went 0for 4 in the Chiba Lotte Marines 2-1 home win over the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, thus dropping his BA to .253.
